Chronic Bad Breath - Why Some People Always Have Bad Breath

Unfortunately, the dental community does not treat bad breath as a serious problem. Dentists help spread the myth that brushing and flossing alone is a good enough solution for bad breath. On the contrary, many people struggle with bad breath no matter how often they brush their teeth.

This trivialization of the halitosis problem leads to a great deal of frustration among bad breath sufferers. People tend to perceive those who suffer from bad breath as having hygiene problems. Sometimes chronic bad breath sufferers are even thought of as lazy.

The truth is that I myself am a chronic bad breath sufferer. As a victim of this horrible problem, I know first hand that it is definitely not just about how much you brush your teeth. Because I was always insecure about my bad breath, I overcompensated by brushing obsessively. It never helped.

An even bigger problem that can stem from chronic bad breath is the paranoia that comes with it. Granted, much of the fear is very real; I am not downplaying the seriousness of the problem. But still; imagine always worrying about your breath, even when it’s actually not that bad. Because our bodies filter out our own odors, it can be nearly impossible to always know exactly how fresh we are. The fear never really leaves you.

So, why do people suffer from bad breath in different ways? If poor oral hygiene alone is not the reason that people have bad breath, then what is the reason? Actually, it pretty much comes down to pure luck. Some people’s mouths are just biologically prone to halitosis because of environmental factors such as temperature, moisture, and the geographic layout of the tongue.

You might think that all you have to do to cure bad breath is to get a tongue scraper, but that’s just not how it is. While a tongue scraper is not necesarilly a bad idea, it can actually make the problem worse if you don’t attack the root cause of bad breath.

Getting rid of even the most chronic bad breath is doable, but you must attack the bad breath at its source. You have to limit the growth of the bacteria that cause bad breath. That’s the only way to get naturally fresh breath that lasts throughout the day.
